Reunion, June 6-7, 2008
Click here for details
The Buc Football & Friends Foundation is proud to announce the publication of East Tennessee State University Football. Foundation members Tom Roberts and Jerry Robertson have teamed to produce the first published history of the ETSU football team and it's supporting programs such as cheerleading, band, and sports medicine. This photographic history recaps each season chronologically through narrative and photos, taking the reader on a visual journey through time. The journey winds its way through 80 years of football, beginning with the 1920 team primarily comprised of high school-aged players with little or no playing experience and ending with the 2003 team of highly trained and skilled athletes. Using the Foundation's extensive archives of photos from annuals, programs, players and coaches the authors bring this great program's history to life.
If you are an ETSU fan or a fan of football in the south, this book is for you! Copies can be pre-ordered through the Foundation for $19.99, which includes all applicable sales tax and shipping. All proceeds will be used to benefit The Buc Football & Friends Foundation. The first 400 books ordered through the Foundation will be autographed by the authors. To order, send check payable to The Buc Football & Friends Foundation to P.O. Box 250, Mountain Home, TN 37684.
Press Release, July 27, 2007
ETSU Football . . .
Let’s set the record straight
The Buc Football & Friends Foundation (BFFF) would
like to inform you that we remain committed as ever to
restore football at ETSU. In fact, you could say we
have become more passionate in our pursuit. Most ETSU
administrators and athletic department personnel would
like for us to go away but we will not.
A lot of football supporters thought we were wasting
our time trying to work with the very people that
dropped football in 2003. Our board thought we had the
best chance to realize our goals by cooperating with
the current administration and athletic department. Of
course, we now know that ETSU’s efforts to
restore football were destined for failure from the
beginning. We would like to take our hats off to Dr.
Stanton and Mr. Mullins for the masterful political
moves that they made. At least they tried to bring
football back, right? We don’t think so.

Our Story
Welcome to the home for the Buc Football and Friends Foundation. A group that has been established to support the reinstatement of college football at our beloved university and alma mater.
East Tennessee State fielded intercollegiate football for over 80 years through the Depression, through times of War, and through times of social change.
In 2003, East Tennessee State University, playing scholarship football at the NCAA Division I-AA in the historic Southern Conference, became the victim of a fatal swoop from the university administration citing the elimination of the program as a "strategic business decision" due to the financial situation of the state, obligations for Title IX, and the need to better fund the program to remain competitive among its peers as the reasons for terminating the program.
As students, alumni, and friends of East Tennessee State, we are here to say that the idea of ETSU without the sport of football is not acceptable. The idea of our beloved alma mater losing it's membership status for all sports with one of the oldest and most respected conferences in the nation is not acceptable. ETSU has fielded athletic programs that have consistently been recognized and respected nationally and internationally and we feel that the legacy of thousands of Buccaneer athletes, coaches, trainers, cheerleaders, marching band members, and the loyal fans who have supported the programs, win or lose, is now diminished.
- We will strive to have football at ETSU again with a permanent fundraising and advising strategy to ensure the success of the program;
- We will work with alumni of other intercollegiate sports and programs (including the Marching Band & Cheerleaders) to ensure that the voices are heard;
- We will help to provide scholarships to deserving young men and women to earn their college education via their athletic and musical talent;
- We will work tirelessly to address the facility issues by directly promoting the development of a regional outdoor stadium and adjacent amenities that will serve not only the needs of college football, but the regional recreational and sports ventures; and
- We will have a college football team that the region and alumni can hold in high regard not just because of wins on the field BUT because of the involvement in the community, the graduation of players, and the legacy of the graduates who laid the foundation for Buccaneer Football.
We invite you to join us as we establish this foundation for the future of Blue and Gold Football.
